Australia's Regional Open Data Census measures the openness of key data published by Australia's state and territory governments. Open data is data that can be freely used, modified, and shared by anyone, for any purpose. Open data creates value in many ways including:
- stimulating the economy through innovation and research
- improving government efficiency and policy making
- providing transparency and accountability.
Answers provided by the community to nine questions about key data are used to create the progress table below. The census is designed to encourage friendly competition and inspire everyone to improve the way open government data is shared to help create value.
